Beyond Arrakis
Movies with the Dune cast
Follow Oscar Isaac, Timothée Chalamet, and Zendaya into very different stories.
Dune’s ensemble gives you several ways to find a next film. You can stay with speculative ideas, follow a performer into another story about power, or change genres completely. The shared actor is the starting point, not a guarantee of the same scale or atmosphere.
These picks connect to Denis Villeneuve’s 2021 Dune. They are deliberately different: a contained science-fiction story, a historical drama, and a contemporary tennis drama. Choose the kind of story you want first, then use the performer as your reason to explore it.
Choose your direction
Try Ex Machina for a smaller science-fiction setting, The King for another drama involving leadership, or Challengers for a move into contemporary relationships and competition.
Ex Machina
2015 · Movie · Science fiction on a smaller scale
Oscar Isaac appears in both Dune and Ex Machina.
A programmer is drawn into an experiment involving artificial intelligence. Instead of following another expansive fictional world, this option moves the cast connection into a contained situation built around questions of control and trust.
Choose it if: You want to keep a speculative premise but would prefer a smaller group of characters to another large ensemble.
A common genre label can hide a large change in tone. Use this as an actor-led detour rather than treating it as another version of Dune.
The King
2019 · Movie · Historical drama and leadership
Timothée Chalamet leads The King as Hal.
Chalamet plays a young heir confronting the obligations of the English throne. The setting is different from Dune, but a viewer interested in stories about a young person and political responsibility has a clear route into this film.
Choose it if: You want to follow Chalamet into a historical setting and are interested in a drama involving leadership and conflict.
The connection described here is an editorial way to choose a film. It is not a claim that the two stories have the same politics, history, or point of view.
Challengers
2024 · Movie · Contemporary relationships and competition
Zendaya, part of Dune’s ensemble, stars as Tashi Duncan.
Zendaya plays a former tennis prodigy who becomes a coach. This is the broadest genre change in the list, moving away from speculative worlds and historical power toward a contemporary story shaped by competition and relationships.
Choose it if: You want to explore Zendaya’s work in a different setting and are open to a sports-related drama rather than another science-fiction film.
Recognizing a performer is only one part of choosing a watch. Check the synopsis and local content rating when the genre changes this much.
Turn one cast connection into a shortlist
Add Dune and at least four other films or series you loved to CastLantern. The resulting shortlist can draw on more than one cast. Keep the actors that interest you, leave out genres that do not fit tonight, and mark titles you have already seen so familiar recommendations do not crowd out new ones.

Availability changes by country and service. Open “View cast & watch options” beside a pick, then choose your country in its detail view and use the watch-options search to check current offers. A shared cast or a recommendation does not mean a movie is included in a particular subscription.
These guides do not carry live streaming offers or prices. See how country-specific watch searches and paid referral links work.
