Beyond the office

Movies with The Office cast

A suspense film, an animated comedy, and two familiar voices in one Pixar story.

By CastLantern · · Cast-based watch guide

The US version of The Office is a useful starting point for exploring a cast, but following an actor does not always lead to another workplace comedy. Some connections take you into horror; others are voice performances in animation.

This guide gives you three different directions. Decide whether you want a familiar face on screen, a comic performance in a new character, or a voice you might not have recognized. These are cast connections, not a promise that the films reproduce the sitcom’s humor.

Choose your direction

A Quiet Place is the suspense option. Despicable Me follows Steve Carell into animated comedy. Inside Out brings together Mindy Kaling and Phyllis Smith in voice roles.

A Quiet Place

2018 · Movie · For a tense, live-action evening

John Krasinski, known as Jim Halpert, acts in and directs the film.

A family tries to survive in a world where making noise is dangerous. Krasinski provides the familiar-face link, while the film’s use of silence creates a viewing experience far removed from the conversations and awkward pauses of The Office.

Choose it if: You want to follow Krasinski into suspense and are choosing a horror film deliberately, rather than expecting a light comedy.

A director credit alone is not a cast connection. Krasinski also appears on screen in this film, which is why it belongs in this particular list.

Despicable Me

2010 · Movie · For animated comedy

Steve Carell, The Office’s Michael Scott, voices Gru.

Carell’s voice performance shifts the connection from a recognizable face to a new animated character. The story brings a supervillain’s plans into collision with family life, giving you a different setting for following his comedy work.

Choose it if: You are in the mood for animation and a comic lead, rather than another ensemble sitcom.

Animation is a format, not a guarantee that every film suits every viewer. Check local content ratings and the intended version before choosing a family watch.

Inside Out

2015 · Movie · For familiar voices and an emotional story

Mindy Kaling voices Disgust and Phyllis Smith voices Sadness.

Two performers from The Office appear as voices in a story built around a child’s emotions. That makes it a useful example of a connection you can miss when you recognize actors mainly by their faces.

Choose it if: You want animation with an emotional focus and enjoy finding performers in roles that look nothing like their television characters.

Voice credits can be a good reason to keep animation in your discovery filters. If you only want live-action appearances tonight, use the genre exclusions to narrow the list.

Follow the performers you actually enjoy

Start with The Office and four other favorites in CastLantern. Keep the actors you want as recommendation reasons and exclude the others. A comedy favorite can lead to a thriller through its cast, so use genre filters when tone matters more than seeing a familiar performer.

Where can I watch these titles?

Availability changes by country and service. Open “View cast & watch options” beside a pick, then choose your country in its detail view and use the watch-options search to check current offers. A shared cast or a recommendation does not mean a movie is included in a particular subscription.

These guides do not carry live streaming offers or prices. See how country-specific watch searches and paid referral links work.
